ART THERAPY. COUNSELING. MEDITATION. YOGA

Art Therapy is creating big waves in Louisiana!

We are extremely proud to contribute to this dynamic and therapeutic field. The video below, created by an LSU student, may help you learn more about art therapy. Watch to hear from one of our clients, and even catch a glimpse of our founder, Lorraine Murphy!

OUR STORY

In 2013 Lorraine Murphy founded Safe Haven Arts in the lower Hudson Valley of New York. Her clinical private practice proudly served New York residents for well over six years. In 2020 Lorraine relocated to Louisiana, and found herself creating a new "Safe Haven" in Baton Rouge. In the summer of 2022 Lorraine's Safe Haven grew as she was able to hire another art therapist and provide opportunities to local graduate students for clinical internships.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to be a professional clinical resource for children, adolescents, and adults living in Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas. We strive to provide a variety of therapeutic, social, and educational services that foster expression, guidance, resolution, healing, and growth. We support our local community and actively seek ways to give back and contribute to it including but not limited to our pursuits towards the growth, utilization, and appropriate recognition of the creative arts therapies in the mental health field.

OUR PROMISE

"Safe Haven" was the exact phrase that one of Lorraine's first client's used to describe their time together. It was the sense of safety and connection that allowed this client to explore life events that had been keeping her isolated, fearful, and angry. By sharing and processing the burden of her trauma, this client was able to move on with a new sense of direction.

At Safe Haven Arts of Baton Rouge, we promise to continually explore new ways to keep our facility a "Safe Haven" for all. We promise to never discriminate against anyone on the bases of age, race, sex, religion, national origin, disabilities, veteran's status, or gender identity. Additionally, we promise to follow all ethical and legal guidelines for counselors and art therapists that have been established both locally and nationally.
